Material Selection of Rotational Molding Mold

2025-08-20

Mold materials directly affect product quality, production efficiency and mold life, which should be selected according to product material (PE, PVC, PP, etc.), batch size and precision requirements:
1 Aluminum alloy mold Common materials: 6061,5083, etc. (aluminum magnesium alloy / aluminum silicon alloy), characterized by light weight ( rotation balance), good thermal conductivity (fast heating and cooling speed), easy to process (can be cast, machining).
Applicable scenarios: small and medium batch production, complex shape products (such as toys, irregular parts), but poor wear resistance, long-term use is easy to wear.

2 Steel mold Common materials: Q235 steel plate (welded), 45# steel (machined), stainless steel (corrosion resistant). The characteristics are high strength, good wear resistance and long service life (can withstand more than 100,000 times of forming).

Applicable scenarios: mass production (such as storage tanks, industrial containers), molds that need to be used frequently, but heavy weight (requiring high load capacity of rotational molding machine), and lower thermal conductivity than aluminum alloy.

3 Other materials

Plastic molds (such as epoxy resin molds): low cost, easy to make, only used for small batch trial production or sample making, very short life (dozens of times).

Composite mold: such as glass fiber reinforced resin mold, lightweight and corrosion resistant, suitable for special environments (such as Marine engineering)
